New maintenance depot for Lincolnshire County Council

New maintenance depot for Lincolnshire County CouncilWith the onset of winter, Lincolnshire County Council needed a new maintenance depot to house and make maintenance repairs to its gritting and snowploughing vehicles. The depot included a twister salt barn, garaging and workshop. A core part of the brief was careful consideration for the environment.

Waldeck Associates designed extensive environmental reclamation and drainage systems to mitigate potential contamination of the adjacent watercourse from salt. Sustainable drainage solutions were used to provide water reclamation for reuse.

Business park extension development in Ely

Business park extension development in ElyLancaster Way is a managed business park one-mile from Ely City Centre. The site, which covers 125 acres, comprises of office, light industrial and storage facilities. Over 100,000 sq m of warehouse space has been constructed over the last 4 years and a 100-acre extension to the business park, situated between the runways of the existing air-base of RAF Witchford, is currently being developed for Grovemere Property Ltd.

Waldeck Associates was appointed to design the site infrastructure based on developing the site in several phases. A key part of our design has been a sustainable drainage system that re-uses as much of the existing drainage and discharge outfalls as possible. Following extensive negotiations with the Environment Agency, we have successfully identified an optimum solution for all parties, planning consent has been obtained and works on Phase 1 of the site development (8 acres) begin early in 2008.

New Halls of Residence at Oxford Brookes University

New Halls of Residence at Oxford Brookes University

Oxford Brookes University has consistently achieved the status of “Best New University” in part because of their attention to detail in the design and provision of student accommodation. The Morrell Student Halls of Residence consists of 10 blocks of accommodation divided into flats and communal living facilities for 554 students at Oxford Brookes University. Originally constructed in 1976, two of the blocks, located on the sloping site, were in need of replacement. This offered the university an opportunity to maximize the density on the site and at the same time reduce the maintenance and running costs, in a addition to providing the new up-to-date residential block for the students

Waldeck Associates are providing civil and structural design services as well as managing the geotechnical and environmental studies. The project has included negotiations with the Environment Agency and Thames Water Authority over their requirement for sustainable drainage solutions. Sustainable building solutions, such as re-using part of the existing building for the new plant room, have also been designed-in. The works are phased to ensure that the number of available beds is kept to a maximum at all times. The project is due to be completed in 2009
