Fire engineering and sustainable building solutions for Moy Park poultry plant

Fire engineering and sustainable building solutions for Moy Park poultry plantThe Moy Park facility located in Anwick is one of the largest poultry processing facilities in Europe. The site processes around 20,000 chickens per hour and, like any other food processing plant, it has stringent health, hygiene and safety standards to keep. Environmentally, this is a world-leading facility on recycling and efficiency and these were factors in coming up with sustainable solutions for the project.

Waldeck Associates worked in close liaison with Moy Park’s own in-house design team on the overall specification of the facility, particularly on the civil, structural and fire engineering aspects to satisfy the stringent requirements of the parent company’s insurers.

This project required extensive fire compensatory measures, including sprinklers for higher risk areas, ensuring full risk reduction and compliance beyond Part (B) of the Building Regulations.

New Distribution Centre for leading European floorcovering supplier

New Distribution Centre for leading European floorcovering supplierHeadlam is Europe’s largest supplier and distributor of floorcoverings to the trade. It has 22 distribution centres throughout the UK and 8 service centres, providing national coverage for its many brands and products. Their newest distribution centre, facilitating a relocation from existing premises, is in Bridgend, South Wales.

Waldeck Associates provided civil and structural design consultancy services for this project. The warehouse facilities required heavy load bearing floors to store carpet and vinyl floorcoverings in broad loom wide aisle racking while tiles and small-packed products are stored on conventional narrow aisle racking. This was an important design consideration. Fire engineering aspects and sustainable building solutions were also key project requirements.

Refurbished hangars for Monarch Airlines

Refurbished hangars for Monarch AirlinesMonarch Airlines is one of the UK’s major providers of low-cost scheduled flights from bases at London Gatwick, London Luton, Birmingham and Manchester airports. Maintenance on aircraft, such as Boeing 757 and 767, Airbus A300, A320/1 and A330, takes place at Luton and Manchester. The refurbishment work at the Luton facility involved refurbishing and remodelling Second World War hangars to provide a suitable engineering environment for servicing and repairs of jet engines.

Waldeck Associates completed an appraisal of the existing building structure, including possible asbestos, drainage, steelwork, foundations, mezzanine and elevations. The new, heavier loads of roof cladding, plant and services dictated that the recladding and building strengthening sequence had to be carefully considered to ensure that the structural integrity of the building was not impaired during and after the work.
